SOP-9 APRS Net Check-in

CCAR Weekly Information Net
APRS Check-in Procedure
16 September 2006
If you have APRS capability and would like to use it to check into the weekly CCAR Information
Net, you can do so using APRSLink. APRSLink provides a link between the Automatic Position
Reporting System (APRS) and the Winlink 2000 Radio e-mail system. To check in to the net
using APRS, just send an email message to W3EOC-5@winlink.org using APRSLink.
To send a check-in via APRSLink:
Send a multi-line APRS message using WLNK-1 as the destination callsign. Be sure to put the
word “check” somewhere in the subject line of the message, e.g., “Check-in,” “Checking in”, etc.)
This will ensure that your message gets forwarded to the right people.
To receive an automated acknowledgement message, place the following line anywhere in the
body of the message:
*please acknowledge*
Each APRS message issues a command, followed by text as follows:
W
W1 [subject]
W2 First line of message
W3 Second line of message
W4 Another message line
/EX
Example:
W W3EOC-5@winlink.org
W1 W3QA APRS check-in for 9SEP2006
W2 Lor in E. Bradford Region 3
W3 73, Lor W3QA
W4 *please acknowledge*
/EX
Individual message lines can be submitted in any order and corrected prior to completing the
message by sending /EX.
When your check-in message is received by W3EOC-5, it will be automatically forwarded to a
short list of CCAR members who use them for recordkeeping and web posting -- the same way
radio email check-ins are handled.
For more detailed information on APRSLink and all that it can do, see:
http://winlink.org/APRSLink.htm.
Thanks to W3QA for this suggestion.
73, Craig WB3GCK
